Kissimmee Loop Trail Pedestrian Bridge

Borrelli + Partners, Inc. (B+P) teamed with VHB and led the architectural design and development of construction documents for the City of Kissimmee’s newest gateway pedestrian bridge. This $8 million bridge crosses over John Young Parkway near Columbia Street in Kissimmee and serves as a gateway to the City. The Kissimmee Loop Trail bridge connects to the Shingle Creek Regional Trail and provides much safer access for pedestrians crossing over John Young Parkway, a six-lane congested roadway. The trail welcomes over 200 pedestrians a day and over 83,000 a year.

A large arch over the bridge, features a lighted sign welcoming visitors and residents to the City of Kissimmee. The truss structure was painted and wrapped in stainless steel mesh for pedestrian safety. The helix access ramps also included lighted bollards ascending to the bridge. The bridge’s tower included a foundation of precast stone with tilt-wall construction used to form the tower walls. Pre-cast city medallions and brick accents were also utilized to enhance the towers appearance. The towers were finished with a standing seam metal roof.
