Summary
Bacon Group and Borrelli + Partners are currently providing architectural design services for a major upgrade to animal welfare in Central Florida: Orange County's new 123,419 square-foot Animal Services Facility, which is expected to become the largest animal shelter in the state. The design programs consist of Enforcement & In-processing, full Veterinary Surgery Clinic, and the two-story Adoptions & Administration and Kenneling accommodations—to streamline operations and provide specialized care.
Total housing capacity is designed for the comfortable and safe accommodation of approximately 265 dogs and 200 cats across various housing types in climate control environments. A significant focus of the facility is its 10,386 square-foot veterinary clinic, which is programmed with eight surgery tables and full-service medical capabilities to maximize the health and adaptability of all animals. Most critically, architectural design will integrate and emphasize Fear Free and WELL Building design techniques, utilizing features like noise reduction, natural light, and strategic space planning to actively reduce stress, not just for the animals, but also for the staff, volunteers, and the public.
